BFDH was founded in 1989 as a grassroots association of concerned businesses in downtown Hartford. Since then, membership has grown to 120 organizations who care about Hartford's business future and want to participate in the city's resurgence.

Our ability to make a difference in the downtown community relies on the support we receive from our members and partnering organizations. Member problems are our problems and our organization prides itself on being dynamic and creative to getting problems resolved.

BFDH has been the driving force in the creation of the Hartford Guides, Hartford Proud and Beautiful, the street vendor ordinance and getting trash receptacles placed around downtown. We are currently working stridently to resolve the downtown parking issues, repeal of the 15% business property tax and the creation of a Business Improvement District.
